Plan to connect Patna metro with airport;

new terminal building by 2023

Former Union minister and Sahib MP Prasad instructed the officials concerned to
expedite the work to widen the Peer for smooth traffic flow at Patna airport.
“Drainage system at Patna airport will be improved so that it can support the infrastructure needed for
the world-class terminal building coming up in Patna. The plans are also there to connect Patna metro
rail line with Patna airport, so that passenger will not face any traffic problems,” he said on Saturday
after the Airport Advisory Committee (AAC) meeting here.

Prasad said the new terminal building will be ready by December 2023 with an estimated expenditure
of Rs1,216.9 crore. “Despite many challenges, the Patna airport is handling 10,000-14,000 passengers
per day and aircraft frequency is around 57-58,” he said. In the meeting, the Airports Authority of India (AAI)-Patna also discussed about the need for the expansion of runway, installation of Category 1 or CAT 1 ILS (instrument landing system) and expediting land acquisition work for the construction of a parallel taxi track ( ). Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh was instructed to coordinate in this regard and settle the matter soon.
Patna airport director Bhupesh CH said around 50% construction work on the new terminal
building has been completed and the ATC tower, multi-level car parking, cargo and fire station will be
ready in the next six months. “We are expecting the construction of PPT to begin this year and to be
completed within eights months. Necessary action is being taken by the district administration to
transfer 21 acre land to the AAI for PPT,” he said.

Negi said with the installation of CAT I ILS, the visibility requirement will reduce from 1,000 to 750.
“The officials will take permission from the environment, forest and climate change department for
installation of lights near Patna zoo premises. We have assured that no tree will be chopped off for this.
If required, we will translocate the trees,” he said.

The director also said they are likely to expand the terminal building, including the VIP room and
washroom, by April 2022. “A new washroom is being built in the security area as well,” Negi said.
Discussion were also held on 192 acre land required at Bihta airport for infrastructure and expansion of
runway. The DM was asked to look into the matter. Prasad, who is the chairman of AAC, stressed on the need of greenfield airport near Patna, which should be made keeping in view the need of next 40-50 years for the state.
