Patna Metro got it’s approval on 14th september by the Planning Commission of India. This Metro Rail project will connect major points of the city Patna in Bihar with Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS). It will be operated by state run Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC).
This Metro project would be developed under Public-Private Partnership (PPP)mode. The entire estimated cost is Rs 13411.77 crore.
Patna residents can expect the Metro to be operational on two corridor by the end of 2024. There will be three Phase in this Patna Metro project, In Phase-1: east-west and north-south corridor from Danapur-Mithapur bus stand and Patna Railway station-proposed ISBT. The distance of underground track in Phase-1 is 15.75 and the distance of elevated track is 15.38.
The Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) will also be formed on the lines of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). DMRC will also look after the work of construction and maintenance of metro rail project in Patna.
NIT-Patna has prepared the report based on the assessment of traffic at various routes and expected increase in coming years. Professor of civil engineering and dean (planning and development), Sanjeev Sinha part of the team also said that they plan to conduct a micro-level survey too. This will be carried on routes that have less than 15,000 commuters on a daily basis. They will also study areas where traffic is expected to increase exponentially by 2041 in order to plan metro rail routes to ease out traffic congestion in those areas.
The Metro Stations under Phase-1 Route 1 are as follows: – Danapur – Shatabdi Smarak- Rupaspur – Rukanpura – Raja Bazar – Patna Zoo – Visvesvarayan Bhawan – Vidyut Bhawan – Patna Junction – Mithapur Bus Stand.
The Metro Stations under Phase-1 Route 2 are as follows: Patna Junction – Aakashwani – Gandhi Maidan – (PMCH) Patna Medical College Hospital – Patna University – Premchand Rangshala – Rajendra Nagar Terminal – NMCH – Kumharar – Gandhi Setu – Zero Mile – ISBT.
The Metro Stations under Phase-2 Route 3 are as follows: Mithapur Chowk – Lohia Nagar – Kankarbagh – Income Tax Colony – Zero Mile – Choti Pahari – Ranipur – Ranipur Chouk – Check Post – Guru ka Bagh – Didarganj.
The Metro Stations under Phase-2 Route 4 are as follows: Bypass Chouk – Vishal – Dasratha – Setu Nagar – Chitkohra – Patna Secretariat – Anishabad – Haroon Nagar – Patna Airport – Phulwari Sharif – Hadaspura – Nosha – AIIMS Patna – Kurji.

Salient features of the project:
1. Danapur Cantt to Mithapur corridor will pass through the heart of the city and will connect densely populated areas such as Raza Bazar, Secretariat, High Court, Law University Railway Station.
2. Patna Junction to ISBT corridor will connect Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Patna University, Rajendra Nagar, Mahatma Gandhi Setu, Transport Nagar and ISBT.
3. The length of Danapur to Mithapur corridor is 16.94 Km, which is mostly underground (11.20 km) and partly elevated (5.48 km) and comprises of 11 Stations (3-Elevated and 8-Underground).
4. The length of Patna Station to New ISBT corridor is 14.45 Km, which is most elevated (9.9 km) and partly underground (4.55 km) and comprising of 12 stations (9-Elevated and 3-Underground).
